About Jacqueline
Jacqueline Comer is the Founder and Chief Product Officer of Areto Labs, a company building AI systems that detect and remove online harm in real time. A linguist by training who arrived at AI through the question most systems had failed to answer, she pioneered one of the first AI models capable of detecting gender and racial microaggressions, and built Areto's technology from the ground up with bias detection at its core.
What Areto Labs does
Areto Labs builds machine learning, natural language processing and computer vision systems that detect harassment, abuse, microaggressions, scams, impersonation and misinformation in real time. The platform supports organisations to set their own community standards, ensuring AI protects communities while keeping humans in control of moderation decisions. Areto's Global Hate Speech Index for Sport is establishing new international standards for digital safety and accountability, with applications being explored across politics, journalism and public institutions.

Responsible AI in practice
Responsible AI at Areto is a technical discipline as much as an ethical commitment. Training datasets are representative and inclusive, incorporating diverse voices and counter-examples to reduce bias. Models are continuously monitored for real-world performance, and moderation actions are designed to hide harmful content rather than delete it outright, preventing pile-on behaviour while preserving human oversight. Jacqueline has demonstrated that removing bias from AI models does not compromise performance. It improves it, and makes for a better business.
Vision for the future
Jacqueline believes in a future where more people feel safe enough to show up online, take on public roles, and use their voices without paying a toll in harassment and harm. The online world is open for everyone. Her work at Areto Labs is to make sure it stays that way.
